Grief-stricken Arnald and Etienne desperately try to save Cerise, who begins colicing a few hours after Margaret dies. Unable to save her, they are left with her two year old colt, Storm.

Arnold is able to stay home with his sons and try to make sense of what his life will be without Margaret. William suggests he remarry and he refuses. He works on the horses and teaches his sons horsemanship. He is once again called to war in March 1300. A truce between England and Scotland gives him hope that he might be done with war.
Marie and Fayette try their best to take Margaret’s place in rearing, breeding, and training the horses as well as helping raise her three sons.
